Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina has programs in place to make sure families do not go without nutritious food.
Mobile Pantry
Families in rural areas face unique challenges due to fewer food and transportation resources. The mobile pantry program distributes 5,000 to 10,000 pounds of food directly to families in need during large-scale one-day distributions. This past fiscal year 9 million pounds were distributed through this program at 592 mobile pantries.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
Through TEFAP, Second Harvest distributes USDA products to those in need in our region. This important food service includes staple goods, fresh produce, meat and dairy products.

Perishable Food Rescue
Every day in America we throw away enough food to feed all of those who are hungry. Our perishable food rescue program rescues millions of pounds of fresh and packaged food from restaurants, catering companies, event venues, and produce markets and picks up and delivers the food the same day to agencies that feed on site, like our partner agency soup kitchens and homeless shelters.
This "Go Green" program annually saves 26 million pounds of food. To help support this program, email info@secondharvestmetrolina.org or call us at 704-376-1785.
