The Need

In Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina's 24 county service area, 12.1% of the population, almost 483,000 people, are considered food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food to fuel a healthy life.  That percentage includes over 151,000 children and 57,000 seniors.

Agencies Served

In order to address this issue, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina distributes food and other essentials to those in need through a network of more than 950 partner agencies that include soup kitchens like Roof Above, emergency pantries like Nourish Up, homeless shelters like Center of Hope, senior programs, and low-income daycares.

 

Food Distributed

In fiscal year 2023-2024, Second Harvest distributed almost 90 million pounds of food and household items throughout our 24 county service region. Over 54 million pounds of our annual distribution were foods high in nutritional value including fresh produce, meat, and dairy.
